Weekly Tips for Your Peak Fitness and Wellness

This Week's Tip: Prevent a Heart Attack with Just One Walk

February is Heart Health month, so you’ll hear a lot of talk about keeping your heart happy and strong. For greater happiness, try hugging your kid, friend, or pet. And to keep your heart pumping strong? Take a walk! According to a recent study, subjects who took just one 90-minute walk improved both their blood lipid levels and their blood vessel function, each by 25%. Just one walk.

While 90 minutes is a long time, any amount of walking will have a positive effect. Aim for an average of 30 minutes daily—which could also mean three 10-minute spurts throughout each day, or an hour-long jaunt every other day. And after you take that one walk? Well, take one the next day. After all, walking also benefits your bones, brain, joints, weight…you get the idea.
