Tips for Your Peak Fitness and Wellness

This Month's Tip: Is Your Sunscreen Really Blocking the Rays?

Not too long ago we posted some basic tips you could use to Protect Yourself from the Sun. We've since discovered that simply choosing a PABA-free sunblock isn't necessarily doing the best you could for your skin. Your sunscreen may still be a health hazard if it contains other nasty chemicals, only protects against UVB rays, or breaks down easily in the sun.

Good thing we hit upon a great resource to help you sort it all out! The Environmental Working Group's cosmetic safety database ranks the best sunscreens according to very comprehensive criteria that factor in the number and amount of known carcinogenic ingredients, the lotion's strength in fending off the deeper-penetrating UVA rays, and how stable it is over time. Oftentimes, your best bet is a sunblock made for babies and kids. But we think skin of all ages could use a little TLC.
