Tips for Your Peak Fitness and Wellness

This Week's Tip: Protect Yourself from the Sun

Exercising outdoors is a great way to shape up and slim down, but don’t forget to protect your skin from the sun while you’re outside having fun. Always wear sunscreen on your face, neck, arms and legs, really any place that’s exposed. There are lots of great, “sports” formula sunscreens available now. Choose one that is non-comedogenic (won’t clog your pores), sweat proof and waterproof (especially key for outdoor exercise!), has an SPF of at least 15 (30 is even better), and be sure to use enough. The amount it would take to fill a shot glass is just about right. Of course, the temptation is to skip it in the wintertime, when the sun isn’t out as long. But you can get burned then, too, especially with the sun’s reflection bouncing off any snow on the ground. It’s also a good idea to wear a baseball cap or other brimmed hat, and if you wear sunglasses, make sure they block UV rays.
